WOOL…? AT THE BEACH…?! The new capsule of Woolmark-certified Merino wool trunks belongs to a long tradition of going where you least expect us. From the early 70s, when Vilebrequin began making waves at the beach with its one-of-a-kind swim trunk design, nothing was off limits: African wax fabric, sailcloth, even linen! As long it tailored well, it was worth exploring. So why not wool? Natural, water-friendly, a sartorial classic: Vilebrequin had to be the first to leap on the Merino swimsuit.

Why does merino wool actually work for swim shorts?
Merino wool at the beach sounds counterintuitive. It isn't. Woolmark-certified Merino is naturally breathable, temperature-regulating and, crucially, water-friendly: it dries faster than you might expect and feels nothing like the jumper you wore at school.
The Super 120's grade used across much of this range is among the finest Merino available, with a softness that sits comfortably against the skin even after a dip. The result is a pair of men's merino wool swim shorts that behave impeccably whether you're in the water or out of it, and look considerably more refined than most things you'll find on the beach.
What cuts and patterns are available in the wool swim shorts range?
The collection follows the Moorea classic cut, Vilebrequin's mid-length, straight-leg silhouette that has been the Maison's signature since 1971. The tailoring-inspired patterns draw from a sartorial vocabulary that feels entirely at home in fine wool:
Prince of Wales check, available in navy and in a warmer colourway ;
Micro check and micro stripe designs in the Tailoring line ;
Plain Super 120's styles in rich, saturated colours including Violette, Midnight, Lemongrass and Thalassa ;
Bicolour styles for a more contemporary finish.
Each design is conceived in the Maison's Paris studio, bringing the same creative rigour to wool as to Vilebrequin's celebrated printed swim shorts. Browse the full selection above to find the style that suits you best.
How do you wear merino wool swim trunks?
The short answer: everywhere. The tailored patterns and refined texture of these wool swim shorts make them genuinely versatile. Wear them to the pool in the morning, then straight to lunch on the terrace without a second thought. The Prince of Wales check carries the kind of quiet authority that works equally well on a yacht deck or at a clifftop restaurant in Capri.
For a complete look, pair with a linen shirt from the Maison's beachwear collection. These are swim shorts that reward those who look closely, and that, in the Vilebrequin tradition, is precisely the point.
